Obituary for Robert "Bob" Worthington

 

A private gathering of family and friends will be held for Robert "Bob" Worthington, 76, of Coos Bay. Cremation rites have been held. Inurnment will be at Lakeside Cemetary.

He was born December 31, 1924, in San Francisco, to Guy H. and Henrietta (Zimini) Worthington. He died June 6, 2001, in Coos Bay.

Bob was raised and educated in Point Reyes Station, California. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, fought in the battle of Guadalcanal, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He worked as a building contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area until retiring in 1973. He moved from Sonoma, California to Coos Bay in 1991.

Bob enjoyed music and traveling, he loved Hawaii and enjoyed fishing and crabbing. he was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He lived a colorful and interesting life and he will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Merle (Hatley) Worthington of Coos Bay; sons, Randall Worthington of Arizona and Robert Balmer of Germany; daughters, Susan Worthington of Coos Bay and Linda Gruschau of New York; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road, Coos Bay, Oregon, 97420.
